The history app
The non-profit organization berlinHistory e. V. was founded in 2016. As operator and developer, the berlinHistory app team contributes its expertise as a central cooperation partner to the “Nazi Crimes Atlas – Digital Atlas of Nazi Crimes” project. The IT structures and technology of the berlinHistory app serve as a stable and user-friendly basis for the communication of historical information. The app is free of charge, ad-free, bilingual (German/English) and specially optimized for mobile devices running Android and iOS. Its unique selling point is the location-based presentation of multimedia content such as texts, photos, videos and audio.
The content is provided by over 60 Berlin cultural institutions and private initiatives, which guarantees high quality and diversity. Users benefit from thematic tours, interactive maps and innovative functions such as a camera module for creating before-and-after images. Since its release in 2019, the berlinHistory app has continued to develop and has established itself as a reliable medium for historical education. The association dieKunstBauStelle has been working with berlinHistory since 2019 and developed the BayernHistoryAppwhich successfully introduced digital local history in Bavaria as an app.
