Participation and involvement

Participation NaziCrimesAtlas

We invite you:

Together with schools, associations and all interested parties, we would like to examine the history of various places in more detail. We are aimed at anyone who wants to remember Nazi crimes in their city and tell the stories of victims and perpetrators. Texts, images and other content can easily be added to the app. Please contact us.

We train:

How do you find access to reliable historical sources? How do you deal with them and cite them correctly? Where can you find secondary literature? What examples of best practice are there?

We want to offer workshops on these topics, scientifically correct but easy to understand.

We mediate:

The BerlinHistoryApp is the basis for the NaziCrimesAltas. We provide training courses for all interested parties on how to prepare research results so that we can post them there. Don’t worry, it’s very simple.

Opportunities to join in:

  • Posting of historical photos (holdings of municipal, regional and state archives, private individuals)
  • Posting photos of the present (stumbling blocks, memorials and monuments)
  • Draw up local maps of a crime (e.g. place of arrest of a persecuted person, e.g. home, place of first imprisonment, e.g. police station, transfer to collection camp or transfer to train station for transfer to a concentration camp, etc.)
  • Interviews with contemporary witnesses (former forced laborers, Jewish residents, Sinti and Roma, local residents…).
  • Links to historical articles in local history publications or newspapers. Important: Links are outdated!
  • Information on existing local history initiatives (stumbling blocks, other forms of civic engagement, photos of memorial ceremonies)
  • Researching further historical documents (newspaper articles from the Nazi press and reactions in international media, letters from persecuted people, diaries, etc.)
  • References to research already carried out (e.g. work as part of the German History School Competition, history associations, publications)
  • References to past and currently funded projects of the Foundation EVZ
  • References to allied trials (Nuremberg IMT, American successor trials, etc.) (Memorium Nuremberg Trials)
  • References to memorial sites in the Federal Republic of Germany (concentration camp memorials, sanatoriums and nursing homes, execution sites, prisons, etc.). These can be included in the mapping.
